The Nutcracker in Harlem

Written by T. E. McMorrow, Illustrated by James Ransome

A spin-off of the Christmas favorite, The Nutcracker in Harlem uses a familiar story in a new way to introduce the Harlem Renaissance and the evolution of Jazz music in America. The story is much the same, with new details: Harlem, sweet potato pie, a drum, and characters based on real people. A nice book to add to your Christmas Collection, it links cultures, holiday traditions, and people through the arts. I recommend reading the author’s note for a better understanding of the book.
