Sarah lives in Juarez, Mexico with her mother and brother Emiliano. Four months ago Sarah’s best friend Linda was kidnapped. This isn’t uncommon in Juarez. Sarah works as a reporter, where she has been profiling several kidnapped girls, including her friend Linda. Sarah receives a threatening email telling her to let these kidnappings go. Meanwhile, Emiliano falls for Perla Rubi, who just happens to be the daughter of a cartel lawyer. The lawyer is trying to pull Emiliano into his world of crime and drugs. Everything starts getting complicated and Sarah and Emiliano have to make some life-altering decisions. They have no one they can trust. Their only option is to illegally cross the border into the United States and find their father who deserted them years ago.

There are many situations where the characters have to make some hard decisions, morally right and wrong decisions. This would be a great choice for a book club. There is no explicit language. The story helps you to understand some of the things that are going on in the world today.
