Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Peaceful Leader

Written by Sarah Albee, Illustrated by Chin Ko

There are many biographies of Martin Luther King. This one uses simple text and wonderful illustrations to convey his life story and message of peace. There were stories about his life that I had not heard before. The book not only shows the inequality that existed while Martin Luther King, Jr. was growing up, explaining why he chose to peacefully change the laws, but it also gently shares some of the harsher events that occurred at that time such as the bomb on his porch and his assassination. At the end there is a timeline with photographs which is a great visual for kids to put it all the dates and events together. The last few pages have photographs of Martin and his family with captions that tell more about his life and his family’s life. It’s a perfect biography for young readers.
