Laura Ingalls is Ruining My Life

Written by Shelley Tougas

Charlotte, her twin brother Freddy and sister Rose are once again moving, this time to Walnut Grove, Minnesota, Walnut Grove is one of the places that Laura Ingalls (the author of the Little House on the Prairie books) lived. They are moving there because their mother, an aspiring author, wants to feel the spirit and influence of Laura as she attempts to write a book. The kids are tired of moving from place to place and not settling down and making friends. Rose is always optimistic and upbeat and can make friends easily, where as Charlotte and Freddy are negative and gloomy and rely on each other and their twin “superpowers”. Charlotte, especially, expects and assumes the worst about people. Things start to fall apart for the family and the children worry that they cannot be put back together again. This book deals with realistic emotions of a tween girl while giving the reader some historical facts about the settling of the West.
I really enjoyed this book and I think readers 4th-8th grade will enjoy it as well. Especially if you are a Laura Ingalls fan.
