An Overachiever’s Guide to College Rejection

Misha Abramavicius, the titular overachiever in We Regret to Inform You, has been rejected from every college she applied to, including her community-college level backup. This gut-punch of an opening takes Misha down a rabbit hole, with the help of her friend Nate and a VERY cool hacker girl group, to uncover the truth of what really happened. The plot itself moves along at a very brisk pace, but stalls dramatically in the middle when Misha’s self-loathing overtakes her desire to uncover the truth. This sudden lack of drive is infuriating, because it runs counter to her external motivation. Aside from the very confusing and lackluster middle, the story bookends with a considerable narrative punch.
