A Drop of the Sea, by Ingrid Chabbert and Guridi

A Drop of the Sea
Written by Ingrid Chabbert, Illustrated by Guridi

Ali lives in the desert with his great-grandmother. She is very old and finding it difficult to walk. One day Ali asks her if her wishes have all come true. She tells him all her little-girl and grown-up dreams have come true except her dream to see the sea. It is two days away and now she knows her dream will never come true. Ali finds a way to seek the sea for her. Read this wonderful book to find out how he makes her dream come true.

This is a story that celebrates a relationship seldom mentioned in children’s books. It exudes love, caring, and sacrifice. It made me cry and held the attention to the class of 2nd graders I read it to.
