Written by Jennifer A. Nielsen

Kestra is the strong-willed 15-year old daughter of Sir Henry Dallisor. He is second-in-command to the cruel (and seemingly immortal) King of Dominion, Lord Endrick. Because of threats to her life, Kestra has spent the last three years in exile with her beloved servant and protector, Darrow. Then, she is called back to her ancestral home for some unknown reason. On the journey home the young girl is kidnapped by a group of rebels who want to overthrow the King and take control of the country. Kestra soon discovers that she doesn’t know who to trust and everyone around her appears to have something to hide and some ulterior motive regarding her destiny.
This book is a great start to Jennifer A. Nielsen’s new trilogy. The story is filled with plenty of intriguing twists and turns and this reader is definitely looking forward to the second book! I recommend this for ages 12 and up.
