Poetree, by Shauna LaVoy Reynolds and Shahrzad Maydani

Written by Shauna LaVoy Reynolds, Illustrated by Shahrzad Maydani

Sylvia celebrates the beginning of spring by writing a poem and tying it to a nearby tree. The next day she discovers a new poem tied to the tree and believes the tree is writing back to her. As she begins to exchange poems with the “poetree,” she discovers a surprise new friend.

I love this sweet story of friendship and poetry. The illustrations are beautiful and I love all the poems Sylvia and her friend create and exchange – it inspires readers to create their own poems and lets readers know that it’s not as hard to write a poem as they may think.

We will definitely be reading this book next April for Poetry month!
