Guts

Written and Illustrated by Raina Telgemeier

Another great graphic novel from Author Raina Telgemeier. Guts takes us through a true story of Raina’s life as a teenager. As she deals with the ever-changing dynamic of school, she also must deal with life at home. She has been having stomachaches and thinks that it might just be a bug going around. But when her mother takes her to the doctors and they find that she is “healthy as a horse,” Raina may find that there is more to her upset stomach then she thought.
I love how this book is so relatable. The way that Raina learns to handle her problems can teach kids how to handle some of their problems as well. The illustrations are colorful and go along with the story well. The wording is not overwhelming, so students won’t get lost along the way. I recommend this book to anyone who likes graphic novels, even just a little bit, to try.
