A is for Elizabeth / Big Mouth Elizabeth

Written by Rachel Vail, Illustrated by Paige Keiser

A Is for Elizabeth (#1)

Elizabeth is in the second grade and thrilled about school, until she gets her first homework assignment, a name poster. The teacher announces that the posters will be hung in class in alphabetical order. First, Elizabeth realizes that her name is very long and second, her name begins with the letter E. Elizabeth does not like that. Anna is always first. Elizabeth and her classmates decide that they want change. Are there other kinds of order? Elizabeth reminds me of Junie B. Jones and made me laugh out loud.

Big Mouth Elizabeth (#2)

Darling book about Elizabeth, a typical 2nd grade girl who just wants to feel included. But Elizabeth hasn’t lost any of her baby teeth yet, so she can’t be in the “Big Mouth Club” with all the other girls except for Babyish Cali who also has not lost a tooth. When the Big Mouth Club gets to go on a play-date one Saturday, Elizabeth is stuck with Babyish Cali. She ends up learning who is really acting babyish after all. I love the lessons students will learn when reading this story.
