The True History of Lyndie B. Hawkins

Written by Gail Shepherd

Lyndon Baines Hawkins, Lyndie, is an 11-year-old girl whose life is changing in ways that she doesn’t like. She and her parents are moving in with her grandparents, her mother is not well and her father is dealing with his service in the Vietnam War. Lyndie wants her old life back, because her grandmother, Lady, is restricting her schedule. Then when school starts, there is a new boy, D.B., that Lyndie is getting to know. Little does she know that his past is mingled with her father’s past. When she finds out the link, she doesn’t know if she should let her father find out. Things will get a little crazy if he knows what she knows about D.B. She is a kindhearted, feisty character that you will want to get her wish. An intriguing story that deals with a few difficult topics, like coming back from war, depression, and the displacement of children.
