The Other, Better Me

Written by Antony John

Lola Harmon, a ten year old whose father left before she was born, is given an assignment to describe a fictional version of herself. Lola digs deep into the assignment and with the help of Nick and Kiana, her best friends, she is determined to uncover her father’s mystery and bring him back. I thought this was a good book, but it was a lower reading level than I was expecting. I like how the story gets tied up at the end, and it isn’t a confusing story line, but the story seemed like it was for an older age than the vocabulary and the dialogue. There are a lot of people who are living with a single parent, and this book shows it in a fun way. It mixes conflict, fun, and resolution in just the right way.
