If You Were Night

Written by Muon Thi Van, Illustrated by Kelly Pousette

A young child gets to see and participate in the liveliness of the world at night. The narrator invites the child to participate, asking whether the child wants to hide from what is happening or wants to join in with the fun. The graphic artist uses paper folding and cutting techniques to make uniquely illustrated scenes made up of layers of intricately cut paper folded into plant and animal shapes! We follow along on a beautiful night journey into the wild, spotting flora and fauna in abundance and soaking in the sights and sounds. Throughout the night this story continues as little paper critters abound with birds, deer, coyote, a bat, bear, snake and slug, along with a salmon, racoon and an owl. Each page had me searching for the adorable tiny paper mouse. A beautiful and stunning book!
