Don’t Feed the Coos!

Written by Jonathan Stutzman, Illustrated by Heather Fox

Another silly pigeon, AKA Coo, warning book, written by the Llama Destroys the World team of Jonathan Stutzman and Heather Fox. It also has the style of the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie theme, without the ongoing buildup, but this is clever and original in its own way. If you give a Coo a breadcrumb, it will follow you everywhere. And its friends will follow. And they will make Coo poos. And you will never be able to get rid of them, so you need to figure out a way to deal with it. And to top it off, maybe someone else is missing their coos, who are a blessing in their life. My initial reaction was this was a great story to show how things in life: unwanted, unexpected, happenings, traits, disabilities, disappointments, are all a part of our journey and somehow, we need to adapt and move forward. So, it has a possible serious theme, but told with humor and fantastically glorious illustrations. Clean, clear, sharp, colorful cartoon images on clean white background are appealing and perfectly suited for the story. I loved it.
