My Rainbow

Written by Trinity and DeShanna Neal, Illustrated by Art Twink

This is a beautiful book about an autistic transgender black girl that is trying to figure out herself and how she wants to be seen. She has short hair like her mom, but doesn’t feel like that it is right for her. She hated how her head itched when she tried to grow it out, but she wanted longer hair. Then her brother had an idea and he and his mom went to the beauty store to see what they could do.

This is a book that some parents may have issues with their children checking it out, but it is a great story to show that we are in a world that is changing and we need to learn to accept those that may be different from us. This would be a good read-aloud for a teacher that is wanting to read books about differences and acceptance.
