The Highest Tribute: Thurgood Marshall’s Life, Leadership, and Legacy

Written by Kekla Magoon, Illustrated by Laura Freeman

The Highest Tribute: Thurgood Marshall’s Life, Leadership, and Legacy is the perfect book to teach children about a civil rights champion who fought against unfairness and inequality and was nicknamed by colleagues “Mr. Civil Rights.” Thurgood was raised during the Jim Crow laws and he knew things were unfair and needed to change. His parents taught him if you wanted things to change then you had to fight for it. As a student, debater, attorney, judge, and ultimately, the first black member of the Supreme Court, he fought for change and made our country more equitable and just. This was a moving and empowering book about a true American hero and I highly recommend it!
