Walrus Song

Written by Janet Lawler, Illustrated by Timothy Basil Ering

This book is a delight! It’s a large picture book with a poem for text. But it’s the illustrations that are the star here. They convey all the action, noise, playfulness, and beauty of the walrus and its habitat. The author got the idea for the book after listening to a YouTube recording of ten hours’ worth of walrus sounds! There is a great sequence with close-up illustrations of a walrus making all kinds of noises. The whiskers are so real-looking it feels like you could reach out and brush them with your fingers. After reading the book, I immediately wanted to know more about this amazing animal. And fortunately, there is a 2-page spread at the back with fascinating walrus facts. I think kids will love this book!
