Standing on Her Shoulders: A Celebration of Women

Written by Monica Clark-Robinson, Illustrated by Laura Freeman

We all stand on others’ shoulders when we achieve anything. This books gives credit to women who have provided a springboard for girls to use to achieve their dreams. With 26 women specifically pointed out in art form and with brief descriptions of their contributions to the world, kids will be able to start their journey into understanding the many things that have been done to help them have all the opportunities they have. Hopefully the few women mentioned in this book will inspire children to seek out the many others who have made this world a better place.

I think this would be a great book for teachers to read to students to start many discussions about equality, family history, connecting with others, and respect among others. The art draws the reader in and helps to connect them to the people on whose shoulders we stand.
