The Clackity

Written by Lora Senf, Illustrated by Alfredo Caceres

Evie Von Rathe lives in Blight Harbor, the seventh most haunted town in America. She is living with her aunt Des, who happens to be a paranormal expert. Aunt Des only has one rule: stay out of the old abandoned slaughterhouse. But when Aunt Des goes to visit the building and disappears, what is Evie to do?

She immediately follows her aunts tracks, and runs into a shadow creature, known as the Clackity. The Clackity promises Evie if she will bring him the ghost of Pope, an old serial killer, he will help her retrieve her aunt. This leads Evie on an adventure full of witches, ghosts with penny eyes, and a memory thief, while trying to escape the ghost of Pope that only wants her for his collection.

This book was great as far as scary books go, right along the lines of Doll Bones and Coraline, to be truthful. It talks about the ghost of the serial killer, but does not involve any gory details – he is just a ghost who likes to collect people.

I would recommend this book for ages 10 and up. It is kind of creepy for small elementary children, but 4th and 5th graders will eat it up.
