Death Cloud

Sherlock Holmes: The Legend Begins | A 2013 Beehive YA Fiction Nominee

Written by Andrew Lane

Death Cloud is the beginning of a new series featuring a teenage Sherlock Holmes. We are introduced to him as a boy of 14 in the summer of 1868. He’s on break from boarding school, staying with elderly relatives in the country. He’s bored, so he sets out to find adventure. He meets up with another teenage boy, Matty. Together they try to solve a series of mysteries and murders. We learn how Sherlock came by his extraordinary sleuthing skills. He’s portrayed as bright, but it’s a little disappointing that he doesn’t show more skill as a young boy. The book is well written, however, with plenty of plot twists and excitement. A good read.
