Exclamation Mark

exclamationmarkWritten by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Illustrated by Tom Lichtenheld

Every week I am on the hunt for a good picture book to read to my classes that come through the library. I look for something that teaches a lesson and is not overly worded. A few weeks ago, I came across Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld. My first class was a kindergarten class and I had learned they had just studied punctuation in class. As I read the book, the children laughed the whole way through. They really enjoyed the subtle humor, especially the question mark. The next week I used the book with the older grades and discussed personification, which was a lesson the sixth graders had also discussed. They enjoyed it as well. I recommend this book for elementary school use with two thumbs up.

  1. I really enjoy books by both Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld. This is one of my favorites. What a great pick for a read aloud.
