The Death of the Hat: A Brief History of Poetry in 50 Objects

The Death of the HatWritten by Paul B. Janeczko, Illustrated by Chris Raschka

An ingenious way to visit the history of recorded poetry. Paul B. Janeczko has more than 1500 books of poetry and four more file cabinets stuffed with individual poems. He chose the poems in this book to represent significant literary time periods. He hopes to give us a better idea of how poetry has evolved. The Death of the Hat is a treasure to add to my school’s poetry collection. The watercolor illustrations by Chris Raschka (A Ball for Daisy and The Hello, Goodbye Window) are colorful and illuminating.
