If Kids Ruled the World

IfKidsRuledtheWorld_2127_HC.inddWritten by Linda Bailey, Illustrated by David Huyck

Ms. Bailey has a good recollection of things kids would want if they ruled the world. Some might still apply to adults (like birthday cake every day being good for you). It is not a rhyming story, but it is fun to read aloud. Words such as “thingamajiggy,” “thingama-copter,” “thingama-cycle,” and “thingama-balloon” are fun words and fun to read. The repetition makes it easier to read. The author makes good use of capital letters, bold-faced type, size of text, ellipses and exclamation points.
Life is happy in If Kids Ruled the World. Lots of adventures in a safe environment. Even monsters in your closet would be afraid of you. There are some rules – like maybe no underwear on your head or grizzly bears for pets. But all in all a fun, happy place.

The illustrations are just as joyful and easy to enjoy. Diverse kids and animals play together happily. The pirate ship has friendly pirates with a chest of treasure. Dinosaurs lick large ice cream cones in the park. Life is good when kids rule the world.
