You Were Here

You Were HereWritten by Cori McCarthy

Jaycee is devastated when her brother dies. He was a thrill seeker and fate finally caught up with him. She tries to follow in his footsteps and stay connected by doing the same things he did.

There are four main characters in the book and each chapter is from a different character’s view.

  • Jaycee is very complicated. Adventure-seeking almost to the point of being suicidal. She will accept a dare from anyone and has a reputation for being tough.
  • Natalie is her best/ex-friend, and is the mature one in the group. Always trying to be sensible, safe and mature, she has also been affected by Jake’s death.
  • Mik is dark and mysterious. He does not speak. His chapters are written as a graphic novel. Very interesting.
  • Zach is Natalie’s on/off again boyfriend. Seeming very shallow and slow, he actually is deeper than it would seem.

The four friends set off on various adventures, some very dangerous. The dynamics of the friends change throughout the book. In the end, each of them come to terms with Jake’s death. There are some surprises, and they all have been affected in very different ways.

I really did enjoy this book.
