Dian has been a media clerk at Woodstock Elementary for 14 years. If you ever get a chance to go into the library and observe, you will notice that the students seem excited to come into the library and are never in a rush to get in and get out as quickly as possible, because she has created an environment that they want to be a part of.

The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, The Boys Who Challenged Hitler by Phillip M. Hoose, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, and Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The last book that made you cry?
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, I love historical fiction!
The last book that made you laugh?
Fred Forgets by Jarvis. I read this with kids at school, but after I felt bad, it was kind of a mean book!
What kind of reader were you as a child? What childhood books and authors stick with you the most?
I was the kind of kid that maxed out my checkouts at the public library every week and built tree houses where my friends and I would sit in and read.
What is the best book you were required to read as a student?
Bread Givers by Anzia Yezierska and Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.
What is your favorite book to recommend to children?
Too many to list, but here are a few,
- Picture Book: Martha Speaks by Susan Meddaugh
- Chapter Books: Wonder by R.J. Palacio, books by Shannon Hale, especially Goose Girl, and the Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

I enjoyed reading about you Dian and the books you read. I love Tuck Everlasting, it is one of my favorite books.
I loved the Book Thief and now I am reading The Nightingale–I just don’t know what is so drawing about these World War II books but they keep drawing me in. We seem to gain strength from those people in life that row upstream and make it. We gain such an appreciation for our freedoms we sometimes take for granted. Thanks for your input.
