The Water Princess

the-water-princessWritten by Susan Verde, Illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds

I and the students who read the story enjoyed the pictures but found the story a little confusing (she refers to herself as a princess but that idea is not developed in the story). I read with some students who are English language learners or below grade level readers. The mother is referred to as Maman which was difficult and further complicated by the font -most thought it read Mama. The value of this book is purely in the illustration and the opportunity to introduce the idea of water scarcity.

  1. I enjoyed this book. I read it aloud to a class and a small group. All the children were intrigued by the idea of having to walk all day to get water. The illustrations are wonderful.
