Abraham Lincoln was only 56 when he died. It seemed to me that he always looked quite old. He was a postmaster! James Buchanan was called “Doughface,” a nickname for Northerners who quietly agreed with slavery, but twisted their opinions as easily as bread dough to make everyone like them. Grover Cleveland was our 22nd and our 24th President. He was the only one who served 2 terms separated by a different President (Benjamin Harrison). Hence the title of the book, Grover Cleveland, Again! by Ken Burns. Cleveland is also the face on the $1,000 bill, though it is now out of circulation.
This book is packed full of fascinating facts about each of our Presidents, including, their occupations, nicknames, quotes, vice-presidents, historical events, and how they were received by the public. I thought the set-up of the pages with a large general information section of each man and several smaller boxes with specific factual details made for enhanced interest. Included is an actual photograph of each man, up to and including Barack Obama. Did you know his nickname was “No Drama Obama?” There are also plenty of illustrations of significance. I really loved the final pages listing, alphabetically by state, presidential birthplaces, libraries, museums, and historic sites. A very comprehensive glossary is also included.
This is a great addition to any library. I highly recommend this biographical, educational, and full out fun book of our Presidents, and history of our country.

Interest Level: Grades 3-9
I really enjoyed reading about the Presidents. The book starts with George Washington and continues with all of the United States Presidents. It gives facts about their Presidency and also about that President’s personality and family. It even includes what pets they had. Once I started reading this book I was excited to read more. I learned some very interesting and fun facts.
