The Money We’ll Save

Written and Illustrated by Brock Cole

A charming tale set in a crowded 19th-century New York tenement. Ma sends Pa out shopping, and she cautions him to get only flour and eggs, as the family of six needs to save every penny for Christmas. When Pa brings home a scrawny, young turkey to fatten up for Christmas dinner, “think of the money we’ll save,” he says. Hilarious complications ensue in this delightful family story. The turkey does get fat in time for Christmas, but by then the family members can’t bring themselves to eat him. Their solution is heartwarming. The illustrations evoke the feel of an era past.
