This story sheds more insight on today’s issues concerning the future of girls being decided by others (parents and family) and the struggle between cultural boundaries. It is written from Naila’s perspective of her experiences of life in America and Pakistan. She is taken to visit her extended family in Pakistan after she is discovered breaking the ‘rules’ of her family. The story reveals Naila’s struggle between following and choosing; right and wrong; old ways and new ones; her reality and that of her parents/uncle. She displays strength, courage and bravery as she navigates through all the emotional trials of growth. Her story opens the door to knowledge concerning the treatment and expectations surrounding young Pakistani girls.

I recommend this well written book.
