Goodbye Stranger

Goodbye StrangerWritten by Rebecca Stead

The book, Goodbye Stranger, is about a girl named Bridge. It is about her life and the lives of her friends, Emily and Tabitha. These girls are best friends and when they formed their friendship, they had one rule: No Fighting. Bridge has survived a terrible accident and one of her nurses said, “You must have been put on this earth for a reason, little girl, to have survived.” She is trying to find out what that means. Do we have a reason to be on this earth? Each of the characters is changing and their lives are changing. Technology offers such a new way of looking at things. And as teenagers they are very tuned- in to their phones, which can bring about good ways of communication and also bring unhappiness and betrayal. Rebecca Stead has written this book in an interesting way. Each chapter is written from a different perspective. And so keeping it all straight can be a challenge as you read the book. Stead has been masterful in bringing about such a happy ending. This book is definitely for a junior high or high school audience as the content may be beyond the elementary school reader. It also contains some swear words.
