Grandad’s Island

Grandad's IslandBy Benji Davies

On the surface, this book is a tale of an imaginative adventure between a young boy and his grandad. But there is much more to the story than that. Syd’s grandpa is such a big part of his life that being together is as natural as breathing. One day Syd and his grandpa go on a journey to a beautiful, tropical island. It was the perfect place and they have a wonderful time. But when it is time to go, Grandad decides to stay. Syd’s journey home is dark and long. Back at his grandpa’s house, everything is quiet and lonely. But then a special letter arrives to help Syd feel better. I was very touched by this book. This tender story is perfect to help children cope with death and to feel hope…well, perhaps it is the perfect book for all of us.
