A Celebration of Beatrix Potter

a-celebration-of-beatrix-potterArt and Letters by more than 30 of today’s favorite children’s illustrators

How do you celebrate one of the most loved and influential children’s authors and illustrators of all time? By imitating her art and describing how her meticulous study of details of the animals she drew inspired you to become a children’s author/illustrator yourself.

This book will delight those of us who grew up reading (and being read to) “The Tale of Peter Rabbit,” “The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin,” and many more of Beatrix Potter’s gems. We not only get to see excerpts from the original books with Potter’s artwork, but we get to see other children’s authors reinterpret the artwork with new and original ideas from their own imaginations. The contributing authors weave youthful experiences and memories of Potter’s tales with the influence the stories continue to have on them in their adult lives.

Even those who have not yet become immersed in Beatrix Potter’s world will be intrigued enough to do so after reading this book. Getting a glimpse of her works would make any young (or not so young) person want more.

One of the authors that contributed to the book, David Soman, summed up Potter’s works by asking and answering his own question. He wondered how she did all of these wonderful things and came to the delightful conclusion that it was magic! I don’t doubt it!
