Tempests and Slaughter

The Numair Chronicles, #1

Written by Tamora Pierce

This book is full of adventure and some unexpected romance. It is about a boy named Arram who goes to a mage university, but is younger than all the other students. Arram is quite adorable, being so smart yet way too naive. This book has a bit of humor, containing characters like a dangerously expressive bird and a clever crocodile god. Though it has a lot of humor, it also demonstrates hard work, determination, and quick thinking. It also touches on the hard subjects of career decisions, showing how one could decide on a career that suits them, like Arram does. Tempests and Slaughter is quite similar to Harry Potter, with the trio of friends and “quests.” Overall, if you like Harry Potter, read this book!
