There are many books on the subject of sea life, but this book is a standout due to its illustrations. The stunning art by Helen Ahpornsiri is crafted from pressed seaweed, coastal flowers, and garden plants. After reading the text, a reader will be captivated and pause just to gaze at the illustrations before turning to the next page. The reading level is a little high for lower grades. It would appeal more to an upper elementary grade reader. Beneath the Waves is broken into four sections: Coastal, Open Ocean, Tropics, and Polar Waters. It is informative and a feast for the eye.
