Living Ghosts & Mischievous Monsters: Chilling American Indian Stories

Written by Dan SaSuWeh Jones, Illustrated by Weshoyot Alvitre

I want our students to learn more about the rich Native American culture in our nation and this book is a wonderful way to introduce the culture and to start discussions about the tribes and history in America. The suggested reading age from the publisher is 8-12, but the subject matter and the discussions about Native American heritage work for older students as well. As an adult I enjoyed reading the stories, which were both chilling and some more than a little eerie. Stories have been passed down in every culture and these tales can be used to both teach us and unify us. Highly recommend.
