Who Are Your People?

Written by Bakari Sellers, Illustrated by Reggie Brown

This story begins with a black family spending time together, thinking about the questions, “Who are your people?” and “Where are you from?” They then reflect on their history, looking back at some of the other black people who have represented resilience, patience, bravery, strength, and change. They then see how they live with these memories and continue to cherish their past while enjoying the present day. This helps the family see that they are from amazing people and they, as well, will do amazing things in the future. A great uplifting story!! I loved it! It would be a great, encouraging story for any student–especially any student that connects with this history and culture. Truly, I have nothing bad to say about this book–so good!
